Although built in 1998, her design was influenced by the schooners used by privateers and pirates throughout the 1700's and early 1800's in the Gulf of Mexico. She is of shallow draft and broad beam. She is rigged as a two masted, gaff rigged, square top sail schooner and can hold a maximum of 70 guests.
Welcome aboard Liana’s Ransom for the most entertaining day sail available in the British Virgin Islands. Just about everything on board (except the safety equipment) is identical to the authentic gear pirates were using some 300 years ago. After a quick safety and orientation brief guests can help hoist the sails, all 2500 square feet of them.
Then we chart our course for Norman Island, the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island. The schooner will normally make two swimming / snorkeling stops at various coral reefs swarming with colorful tropical fish. There is snorkel gear aboard for those wishing to take a look. You can also "walk the plank" and "swing from the yardarm". Or you may choose to just relax, admire the beautiful scenery and enjoy a cocktail.
The crew is dressed in pirate costumes and armed with flintlock pistols and cutlasses. There are additional costumes and accessories for the guests who wish to dress up.
The cruise includes rum punch, beer, soft drinks and water as well as a complimentary lunch ashore at the Pirates Bight after the snorkel stops. Lunch is a choice of grilled sandwich (including vegitarian) and a soda or water. The ship is also equipped with a good sound system so we can play a great variety of music.
During the sail back to Tortola, some lucky passengers will be picked to help fire our four ¼ scale 24 pounder, black powder cannons. Come if you dare, sail under the black flag and experience life as a Pirate of the Caribbean!
